Experience Summary
As a Language Arts teacher, I am well versed in many conceptual approaches to learning and mastering reading and writing. I have accompanied my teaching experience with a Master's Degree in English and Writing, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in communication. My teaching career began in New York City, but I am proud to have called Portland my home for the past three years, where I have been teaching English at a middle school in Beaverton.
Teaching Style
Teaching comes as natural to me as parenting, the key is to set high but achievable goals, as well as firm expectations and boundaries. I have been regarded as a favorite teacher these past three years, and many former students come to visit me on their own time every week. I am patient, easy going, and considerate, but I do expect a level of rigor and effort that pushes my students to do their best. I come from the "Balanced Literacy" school of thought, and have used this practice to foster the growth of all of my students, regardless of their ability level. In addition, I am a pioneer in the use of the "Four Square Writing Method" as an organizational model for the writing process. It has been quite a hit with my students, as well as my colleagues. In these past five years, I have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of students. I can't wait to hit a thousand, ten thousand, and beyond!
