Experience Summary
I have acquired a wide range of skills through my experiences in teaching and tutoring. For four years I worked with a dyslexic child to improve his reading skills. I used a variety of approaches in the implementation of lesson plans and practiced great patience. For the last three years in China and in a tutorship program in America I had the opportunity to work with some at-risk students. In America and abroad I have developed great oral and written communication skills and I have used these skills to explain complex ideas to students from different socio-economic backgrounds, cultures and experiences and for whom English was not a native language. Through thorough lesson planning and lesson implementation I have become very detailed-oriented and goal-oriented. In the past I have emerged myself in unfamiliar situations and I have been able to teach students from a wide variety of backgrounds with great results.
Teaching Style
The most important things in achieving academic success are the establishment of goals and discipline in achieving those goals. I help students to become involved in their own educational experiences by exploring different teaching and learning methods that best fit the student's needs and personality, creating their own goals over a period of time so that they can keep track of their own progress and by providing students with patience and encouragement so that they remain focused in achieving their own personal goals. I also push students to think outside of the box and challenge themselves rather than limiting themselves only to standards of their age or grade- appropriate level.
