Experience Summary
Since beginning college in 1994, I have been involved with teaching and/or tutoring students, hearing and deaf. My experience teaching ranges from preschool to high school, typically developing children to those with disabilities, from impoverished and affluent areas. My tutoring has been both with a nationwide tutoring chain, as well as with a privately owned company. I have tutored in every subject area, and feel comfortable with any subject area.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is highly influenced by the type of student that I teach. As a teacher of deaf students, my teaching must be very visual and hands-on. I find this lends itself well to teaching students who might be struggling in a regular classroom environment as well. I always begin by activating any prior knowledge a student might have in a given area, then establishing the goals that need to be met, engaging the child with relevant activities, and going from guided instruction to independent practice.
