Experience Summary
Growing up my mother ran a tutoring program out of our home. This is where I initially learned the skills involved in tutoring. Ever since I was 16, I was aiding my mother in various tutoring sessions and when I entered University at age 18 I worked as a lead tutor for a tutoring program for at-risk children of the Azusa community in California. For two years, I worked with and watched as various children I tutored and mentored grew and overcame learning obstacles, excelling in the classroom as well as at home. Throughout my high school and university years, my education has fine-tuned my reading and writing skills through the endless process of research papers, thesis', and creative writings. Since then I have been tutoring in the subjects of reading, writing, math, Spanish, and cultural studies.
Teaching Style
Teaching has always been a part of my life. My mother was constantly teaching me, along with my siblings and the twenty other children that ran in and out of our home. I believe strongly in a teaching method that provides encouragement and positivism; one that highlights the good before pointing out the mistakes. My goal is to listen to the child and hear what his or her needs are and where he or she is struggling, and then to actively tackle one issue at a time through creative and interactive activities, problem-solving, and constructive criticism. I believe in children, their innocence, their carefree energy and endless intelligent ideas and innovations. My ultimate goal in life is to make a difference, and children are a great place to start!
