Experience Summary
I am an experienced classroom teacher, seminar leader and professional writer. My goals when I graduated from Olivet College in Bourbonnais, IL were to teach students in English, Speech, Drama and writing skills. I graduated with a 4.0 on the Deans List from this small college in Illinois.
My career path has taken me from Secondary teacher in English, Speech and Drama to Public Relations, Marketing and currently the Financial Services Arena with a strong emphasis in education for my clients. After the October Fires in Southern California I tutored elementary children through Read/San Diego, which is a tutorial program, to help students with all basic skills such as reading, math, social studies and science. I recently taught a visitor from Japan in vocabulary, reading and pronunciation skills as he wanted to communicate better in the business world.
It is my pleasure to help you and your student choose an experienced teacher and tutor to give them more advanced skills within their study area.
Teaching Style
My tutoring style comes for many years of working with students at all levels. The first part of my lesson is to teach proper breathing. Most adults and young students simply do not know how to breathe properly. I use a number of teaching techniques including praise for good honest work, excellent outside resources which can come from the internet or from books that I find in the educational stores and libraries.
I am dedicated to my student on a full time basis even though I may meet with them perhaps two to three times per week. The student has my full attention and their lessons are instilled for their specific needs. I look for progress from the student and inform them as such initially.
Every student is treated with respect and congratulated on their good efforts from the beginning of our studies together. The elementary student often receives flash cards pertinent to their studies which helps a great deal in their lessons. I believe that if the student understands basic principles then they can move on to more advanced studies to see their own rewards and progress. My whole premise is to create a student who is competent and has self-esteem about their studies.
