Experience Summary
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Butler University with highest honors in English Writing and high honors in Spanish. While attending school, I worked as a peer tutor in the Writers' Studio, which trains high-proficiency tutors to work one-on-one with students on the outlining, writing, and revision process for academic essays. I have studied Spanish since 2nd grade and studied abroad in Madrid for a semester during 2009. I have also been studying music and cello performance since 4th grade, played in the Butler Symphony Orchestra all 4 years of college, and tutored several elementary students in cello.
Teaching Style
I work best in one-on-one situations with students of most ages, particularly older students. I make sure that the student understands my explanations of topics, and if they do not, I make sure to rephrase coherently so that they do. I actively engage the student in their learning, encouraging them to answer their own questions rather than simply lecturing. I believe that getting the student to believe in him or herself is the key to success, and I find encouraging them to move in the right direction and correct themselves is more effective than reproaching mistakes.
