Experience Summary
I have been in the field of education as a teacher and a tutor for 30 years. I have extensive experience in working with children of all ages. I identify the learning gaps and determine your child's learning style. I also help with homework. I have tutored children with ADD, dyslexia, aspergers, autism, and sensory processing disorders. I taught school for 25 years in private schools. The last 5 years I have worked as a tutor. I feel that I can better reach children one on one, than in a big classroom setting. I am skilled at teaching reading fluency and comprehension.
Teaching Style
I love teaching and working with children. I tutor full time. Teaching is my passion. I can set your child on the road to success. My students see entire grade level jumps in just a few hours of tutoring. I believe all children can reach their potential if they are given the appropriate tools and learning experiences. I use manipulatives and games to help make learning fun and to reinforce concepts. I offer a relaxed and gentle approach to learning that takes the child at his own pace and gives him every chance to succeed.
I tutor students in Writing through the college level. I had my first story published in a children's magazine at the age of 10 years. I still publish articles today and I'm now working on a nonfiction book that I hope to get published soon. I take students through the five stages of writing a paper. I teach them how to write good topic sentences and how to support that with solid paragraph structure. I teach the mechanics of the classroom essay, the three paragraph essay and the five paragraph essay.
I also help with homework and teach children how to study and how to organize their time and lessons. I teach them how to use a day planner and how to use color coded folders and tabs. Often, students have been unsuccessful using a day planner because they have gone about it in the wrong way. I teach strategies for using a day planner effectively, planning effectively, and following through on commitments. I teach students how to take responsibility for time management, how to avoid procrastination and distractions and how to prioritize.
I teach reading comprehension and fluency through the use of phonics, shadow reading, narrating and comprehension activities. Students read books and study vocabulary within the context of the story.

My Hobbies
My hobbies are gardening and reading. I plant a big canning garden every summer and offer canning classes to anyone who is interested.

I was one of the oldest in a family of nine children. I am the aunt to 54 nephews and nieces, the grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters, and the mother of two daughters and one son. I currently homeschool my 14-year-old daughter and my ten-year-old son.
