Experience Summary
As a soon-to-be graduate of Oberlin College, I understand the importance of education. I am an East Asian Studies major and Creative Writing minor, so I have extensive experience in writing analytic papers about Japanese culture and original stories. I'd be willing to provide some writing samples upon request. In addition, I was a tutor of Reading, French and Japanese throughout my years of high school and college, so I have experience in those subjects as well.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is patience, immersion and respect. If there is one important thing I have learned from working with children, it is that though they are young, they are still people, so they are aware when they are being patronized for their age. Therefore, I make sure to treat them with respect.
As far as foreign language teaching is concerned, I stress the difference between "decoding" and "comprehension". I want my students to be able to read in the foreign language and completely understand, rather than just read the letters and sound out the word.
