Experience Summary
After graduating from Purdue University in 2003 I was fortunate to have myriad teaching experiences with students of varied skill and income levels. I started my career in elementary education but quickly found a love for middle school where I began teaching English in 2004. I thoroughly enjoy working with a student on the craft of writing and seeing them bloom as an author. Their writing skills can open so many doors for them as they become adults and I enjoy being a part of that learning process.
Teaching Style
All children can learn. When I meet a student there is never an issue of him or her being unable to improve. It is simply a matter of finding their motivation and highlighting their strengths. Unless a person feels that they can be successful they often give up, so I make it a point to raise student confidence while teaching new writing skills. Very few people are natural writers as it is a skill that must be developed. There are many different ways to do that, and none of them should be boring or painful; although all of them will take hard-work and a willingness to try new writing techniques.
