Experience Summary
Having always been intrigued by language, I have spent the majority of my life learning and teaching language skills. Beginning with study abroad, I learned how important communication is. Language unites one person to another, or one culture to another culture worlds apart. After pursuing a master’s degree in German literature, I proceeded to study the English language, focusing specifically on composition skills and research. My experience within the realm of composition extends from one-on-one tutoring in a university writing center to being the instructor of record for an entry-level university composition class.
Teaching Style
Typically I incorporate a heavy communicative approach to the subject I am teaching, allowing knowledge to be shared through communication. Communication with the student helps to enforce the context of the material, which is essential for full comprehension. Once communication, context, and comprehension have been achieved, I encourage the student to independently solve the problem or demonstrate their newly gained ability in ways useful for the learning process to continue. I usually take a comfortable pace with my student, determining their needs, and intensify my approach as needed. Teaching is, for me, a way to guide a student closer towards the information they seek by showing new and creative ways to approach information.
