Experience Summary
I am an exceptional math/English tutor. I've earned a bachelor degree in Accounting from Santa Clara University. I have three years professional working experience for several multinational companies, which has helped me understand the importance of great communication and math skills in business. In Denver, I've taught math and English to high-risk youth. For the 2010-2011 school year, I had 100% of my students’ parents request me to be next year's tutor. I passed the state certified PLACE mathematics exam showing competency in math (i.e. pre-algebra, algebra I, II, calculus, trig, geometry, and other math operations and concepts). In Peru, I taught English for a year. I speak fluent Spanish and have taught many students with disabilities.
Teaching Style
I love teaching kids. Kids absorb new things like a sponge and often need things taught in a variety of ways in order to fully comprehend a subject. Regarding math, I use real-world examples to show how a particular concept is important. Then, I show the method to solve the problem. Next, I have the student teach me how to solve the problem. Finally, I have the student do practice problems in order to master the material. Practice indeed makes perfect. I hold students accountable for completed homework. In class, I make constant connections with the material to the student's passion or personal interest. I constantly ask questions. I am patient, energetic and thrive on seeing progress in my student's academics. I enjoy biking and hiking.
