Experience Summary
I have a decade of experience as a teacher, tutor, and counselor/mentor in a variety of settings: First Grade through college; urban schools to rural college campuses; in-classroom instruction to private in-home tutoring. As a life-long student myself, I have very strong language and writing skills, and this is an area of particular talent for me as a teacher. I hold certifications in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in Elementary Education, Social Studies, and English, and I have classroom experience in each area. I earned my Master of Science degree in Education at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, and I am currently working towards a Master of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Teaching Style
I firmly believe that the right combination of hard work and innate talent will help a child learn and grow. I set high expectations for my students, and I create a learning environment for each child to achieve at their own pace and in their own way. I have learned that a smile and a nudge in the right direction can create for a young learner a path towards empowerment and success. I believe that establishing and securing a firm foundation in basic skills is essential for developing higher-order knowledge. Each child will flourish with the right structures in place, and among the most important of these is the right teacher.
