Experience Summary
After twenty years working in the environmental, health and safety field, I was motivated to change careers and become a science teacher. As a "second career" teacher, I earned a Master of Education degree at the University of Toledo and am licensed to teach Integrated Science (i.e., Earth and Space Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences) for seventh through twelfth grades. I believe that my environmental, health and safety experiences coupled with my education to become a science teacher uniquely qualify me to effectively teach science.
Teaching Style
I provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on activities that are interesting and meaningful to them and that promote critical thinking skills. I assign reading material that directly supports these activities so my students can read with a purpose. Learning takes effort; it can be challenging and frustrating, but is also very rewarding. I encourage students and provide assistance when needed to help them learn challenging concepts without getting frustrated. I try to accommodate individual learning preferences by providing students with choices for independent or group activities.
