Experience Summary
I am a graduate student in the History Department at UT-Austin, and I have a BA in Philosophy from Brown University. Having been a teaching assistant at the college level, I am fully versed in grading standards and I can help you, my student, perform at your highest possible level. I have had a lot of experience crafting research papers, which I can use to help students through the entire research process, from finding sources to appropriate formatting of the final paper. In addition to acting as a teaching assistant, I can and have tutored students (at the middle school, high school, and college levels) in English (language and literature) and American History; I have also worked to prepare high school students for the PSATs and SATs.
Teaching Style
Learning how to read critically and write clearly tends to improve academic performance across the board; students with strong reading and writing skills can absorb and communicate information effectively, even when they are unfamiliar with the material. Mastering these basic skills is as important for college and graduate students as for elementary and high school students. I can help you expand your vocabulary, polish your writing skills, and offer strategies for fast and effective reading comprehension, especially in preparation for the verbal sections of standardized tests. Finally, I am still a student myself, so I can sympathize with a heavy workload, and offer strategies for getting assignments finished on time.
