Experience Summary
I have been a teacher at the elementary level for 6 years. I earned my bachelor's degree from UT-Austin and my teacher certification from LeTourneau University. I completed my student teaching in 1st grade, and then went on to teach that same grade level for two more years. I was the grade level chairperson during in my second year. I then began teaching third grade where I continued until December 2010. I have worked with special education, ESL and gifted/talented students. I have also spent my entire career working in Title I Schools. During the course of my career, I have been a tutor/mentor to students in all elementary grade levels in reading, writing and math.
Teaching Style
Working with children is my passion! The individual differences of my students is what drives my teaching style. As a general rule, I believe in everyone having the chance to succeed based on success for them personally. Being an educator has helped me to understand the need for teamwork between teachers and their students, parents, colleagues & administration. I find that I am most comfortable when I have the opportunity to be in front of a class of students who are eager to learn and willing to work hard.
Children learn by doing, so it has always been my intent to create a hands-on classroom environment. This ensures that students will have experiences to help them expand their skills in all subjects.
