Experience Summary
I received a B.A. degree from Central Oklahoma University in 1966. My major was English and my minor was Social Studies. I taught English in grades 9-11 for forty years. American Literature (Junior English) is what I taught the most but am qualified to assist students in understanding various literary genre as well as grammar lessons and writing assignments. I retired from teaching and coaching football after the 2006 school year and would enjoy an opportunity to tutor students if I am knowledgeable in their tasks at hand.
Teaching Style
I taught high school English and coached football for forty years before I retired. The two positions are compatible in that each has talented youngsters who come to school each day excited to learn and improve and those others less capable and seemingly apathetic about the task at hand. My philosophy was always to challenge those brilliant students to avoid complacency and, at the same time, to find creative ways for the reluctant students to achieve some success and praise.
