Experience Summary
My BS and MS in Chemical Engineering degrees have given me an in-depth knowledge of concepts in math. During 13 years in the pharma industry, I used my skills to succeed and earn awards, honors and patents. After 12 years as a mentor and volunteer, I changed my career because I really enjoyed working with young people.
I decided to change my career through a MAT program which included a student teaching experience. I taught math to a mixed ability class using a constructionist philosophy where students discover and explore topics in math rather than having the topics dictated to them. I believe my experiences in student teaching as well as my educational background and work experience combine to make me a great teacher.
Teaching Style
My philosophy of education is that everyone can learn and that it is my duty and passion to help them. Every person and every child has within them a unique collection of talents, abilities and ideas. Everyone has something special to contribute and everyone has something to teach others.
My career as a teacher and my philosophy of education are in their embryonic stage. I fully expect my philosophy to grow and change as I do, hopefully becoming more defined and refined. I want to continuously learn new things so I can improve as a teacher. However, while I am evolving as a teacher, I desire to retain the belief that everyone can learn and that I will do everything that I can to help them towards that goal.
