Experience Summary
Having graduated with a degree in mathematics and extensive work in engineering, I was positioned me for pursuits along technical and analytical exercises while bringing in insight beyond the rigidity of science alone. I have applied these skills in areas of I.T (electronic data interchange long before it was common place), research (developed database of metellurgy alloys for NASA), as well as public health (perform statistical analyses of unintentional injury (for CDC effort) and trauma for the state of TN). I have privately tutored many who have come to me, admitedly because of their own "struggle" with math. Testimonials of a few are available.
Teaching Style
I emphasize the learning of concepts and understanding to the extent that the student is able to teach them back to me as a validation to themselves that they have grasped the idea of the moment. Learning is progressive. Each student has his own point of understanding of a concept and all future concepts are built upon the previous one(s). Once the student understands that he knows more that he thought, the previously overwhelming challenge is disarmed by newfound confidence. He realizes he is in control and he begins to relax and the learning begins. I combine relational techniques in that I use examples and parallels to which the student identifies to explain the math concepts and terms.
