Experience Summary
I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California State University in Long Beach. Before that, I attended the California Academy of Math and Science. All of my studies have been heavily based in math and science, by the end of which I had reached the level Differential Calculus, and high end applied sciences like Control Systems, Heat Transfer and Machine Component Design. Since 2008, I have tutored several students one on one in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-calculus. I have also worked many years in the food service industry, learning how to communicate, to be patient, and to be understanding.
Teaching Style
A good tutor must be a good communicator. When I tutor, I ask questions about what the student knows and what areas cause them difficulty, often requesting them to demonstrate their proficiency with the subject. I answer all pupils' questions as thoroughly as possible and empathize with them to alleviate frustration. Gaining a sense of the students strengths and weaknesses I set them up to practice accordingly. When studying new subjects I will demonstrate and often use real world examples to clarify a concept. When studying challenging or complex concepts, I emphasize practice and repetition, because I have found that experience is paramount to thoroughly understanding a subject.
