Experience Summary
My degree consists of two areas of emphases: English and the Humanities, with a minor in Dance. Through the course of my study, I have learned how to be a better writer, understand and appreciate literature, religions, and cultures of the world.
For my last two years at BYU-Idaho, I worked at the university's Writing Center. There, I learned how to tutor one on one with students regarding reading, grammar, essays, résumés, cover letters, letters of introduction, summaries, etc. I attended a two hour biweekly seminar where we learned how to be better writers, improve our grammar, understand great writing, and increase our patience, love, and care for those patrons who we would help.
Teaching Style
I believe in the Socratic Method. Through this tutoring method, the student is asked questions to help them develop understanding on their own. Through this discovery style, the students actually learn in ways that will be remembered most. I believe that any child, teenager, or adult can learn most effectively through their own discovery, with my help and guidance. I believe in having "ah-ha!" moments, and the feeling of relief and excitement when connections are made, and learning happens. That's what I want for my students.
