Experience Summary
I attended university for 12 years. During my PhD studies I did interdiscliplinary research related to music in the areas of mathematics, linguistics, psychology, computer science, and others. I have taught at the university and community college levels, including musicianship, music appreciation, electronic music, and also conversational Spanish in the UCSD Muir College Linguistics Department, and critical English writing skills at the UCSD Muir College Writing Program. I have written published articles in music theory and have experience in writing legal documents and translation/interpretation.
Teaching Style
I enjoy learning and teaching. My philosophy is to teach students how to learn so that they can eventually guide themselves and be self-motivated learners. My focus is on organizational methods, analysis and research skills, and effective structure. I have the ability to simplify and communicate more difficult concepts into easy to understand formats. I believe students must master the building blocks and basic ideas before being able to achieve greater understanding and abilities. I stress to students the value of what they are learning in order to properly motivate them.
