Experience Summary
With over 30 years of teaching experience, I have worked with all ages and levels of students from pre-school through post-graduate. Mathematics-related subjects include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus I & II, differential calculus (advanced engineering mathematics) and statistics. I have also taught a broad range of computer science and engineering topics, including programming (C, C++, Java, HTML/Web) and business skills (such as Microsoft Office). I have experience and especially enjoy working with gifted and talented students (including underachievers as well as those who wish to accelerate through the curriculum) and adult learners.
Teaching Style
Students often find that they can comprehend and retain material better when they are engaged in the learning process. Just like learning how to ride a bicycle or play a musical instrument or sport, self-feedback is an important part of the process. This is also true with mathematics and science. Rather than lecture or force rote memorization, I prefer to use a question and answer style that helps guide the student through the concepts being studied. This also helps discover where there may be gaps in the student's knowledge, so that additional focus can be provided where necessary. I also use real-world examples and games to reinforce and improve skills.
