Experience Summary
The majority of my teaching and tutoring experience comes from instructing college freshmen in how to write intelligent, thesis-driven essays. I hold a BA and MA in English and have taught writing courses at the University level as well as tutored remedial students. I am well-trained in helping students to become careful, critical readers, as well as develop original and convincing arguments through the careful crafting of strong thesis statements and supporting ideas.
Teaching Style
My teaching philosophy is to set high standards and to work diligently with students to achieve them. One's ability to communicate ideas clearly is the cornerstone of both academic and corporate success. The way to achieve this is to first become a critical reader. A student must understand the pattern of a well-formed essay before writing one of his or her own. Once a student has grasped the above, we develop original ideas that he or she can fully support with textual evidence. As with anything else, success in the development of strong writing skills takes time and constant revision. However, a student who is well-trained in writing a logical and convincing argument will prove successful in all subjects and certainly in a future career.
