Experience Summary
I graduated from the UNH with a B.A. (summa cum laude) in Psychology in 1982. I attended Antioch/NE, graduating in 1985 with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology. I began a private practice and started teaching at the University of New Hampshire and at community colleges in the area and later at Emerson College and Northeastern University. I attended Harvard Divinity School and received a M.Div. in 1993 with a concentration in Comparative Religions and Pastoral Counseling. More recently, I was certified in a program called Creative Journal Expressive Arts which integrates the right and left hemispheres of the brain, enhancing learning, memory, problem solving, creativity and many other areas of brain function.
Teaching Style
My philosophy of education is based on the belief that we are all born natural, enthusiastic learners and, if appearances are to the contrary, there is a reason. I believe the effective teacher must determine the student’s learning style and tailor lessons to the individual’s strongest learning channel, their interests, passions, creative imagination and motivations. I have found as an educator, each “aha!” moment with a student, every sign that a new connection has been made or a deeper understanding has been realized, has brought renewed commitment, on my part, to the vocation of teaching.
