Experience Summary
My passion is making mathematics accessible. After high school I was underwhelmed by mathematics. However as I took more math in college, I realized how much I had missed in high school. As I learned more mathematics, I became determined to make it my business to find and implement better methods of educating people on mathematics in a way that does not overwhelm them, but simultaneously makes their learning experience more useful. I studied teacher education as an undergraduate, and attended graduate school at Dartmouth where the program in mathematics has a specific focus on preparing one to teach mathematics. I look forward to continuing making progress on my goal of making mathematics more useful, and more accessible to more students.
Teaching Style
I am particularly enthusiastic about teaching
mathematics to all students, and my record documents this fact. As an undergraduate I studied education,
and acquired a secondary education license while pursuing a rigorous mathematics curriculum. At Dartmouth
I have devoted myself to helping my students learn the power and utility of mathematics. I strive to help
students learn how mathematics is a relevant, useful and even enjoyable part of their lives as they become
contributing members of society. I take pride in developing strong relationships with my students, and I
am strongly opposed to the “myth of ability” in mathematics.
