Experience Summary
I attended the University of New Mexico and earned a double BA in Psychology and English where I produced a pamphlet for students with traumatic brain injury for the UNM Accessibility Resource Center, was fourth author of a poster on Mindfulness Intervention, and wrote a grant proposal for the UNM Women In Science and Engineering Program. I conducted literature searches for Dr. Akaysha Tang’s Neuroscience Laboratory and completed training in Motivational Interviewing through Dr. Bruce Smith’s Positive Psychology Laboratory. In addition to formal education, I have nearly ten year’s experience working academically and intellectually with youth in after school programs, summer camps, and at-home settings.
Teaching Style
I have learned to acknowledge and understand the multitude of learning styles and abilities among youth from different backgrounds, belief systems, and economical positions, and I am familiar with individual personality and psychological variations that effect attention, learning, and social or personal interactions. My philosophy for educational instruction and tutoring involves supplemental interaction, minimal direction, and extensive support to help individuals gain self-confidence in their available skills set, intelligence, and problem solving tendencies by presenting helpful strategies and adhering to each student's abilities.
