Experience Summary
Because of the opportunities education provides, it has always been a high priority in my life. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics, which has equipped me with a thorough understanding of many different areas of math. Furthermore, I have played the clarinet for fourteen years, and taken private lessons and played in the university Wind Ensemble throughout college. I have tutored many students from elementary school through college for five years, in subjects from private clarinet lessons to Algebra to Statistics. Every student went away with positive results: higher grades, admittance into a higher band, or understanding of a subject.
Teaching Style
Math is an especially intimidating subject to many, but learning at an individual pace is often the only barrier to complete understanding. I am patient, and willing and able to explain the workings of different concepts that cannot be covered in a classroom setting, in as many different ways as the student needs. On the other hand, I am mindful of the individual’s learning style and understanding, and will adjust the pace, slower OR faster, to the student. I bring the same mindfulness and attention to the student to private music lessons. I am enthusiastic about both math and music, and about learning in general. I love to offer information and explain, but I most love watching students come to an understanding of their own.
