Experience Summary
My degree in chemistry has given me an in-depth understanding of chemistry and mathematics. I began tutoring a year and a half ago when a friend asked if I would be interested in tutoring chemistry to some of his high school students. Since that introduction to tutoring I have acquired more tutoring students through word-of-mouth. I have tutored mostly high school juniors in chemistry at several different levels. I have also tutored adults returning to college in basic math and algebra. I have a large degree of success with my students and find an incredible joy and satisfaction in their triumphs. When my students excel I know I am doing a great job.
Teaching Style
I adjust my teaching style to each student as everyone learns differently. I prefer to meet the student and evaluate what their strengths and weaknesses are and work from there. Generally I gear tutoring sessions towards completing homework, quiz and test specific studying, and test taking skills. As we go through material, often I will have students make and utilize note cards to study. I believe the more times a student comes across the material, the better it is learned. However, tutoring sessions are adjusted to accommodate each student's learning ability and needs. I am a patient teacher and have an aptitude for explaining things in many ways so anyone can understand even the most complicated of concepts.
