Experience Summary
Throughout my career in business and education I have always loved and appreciated the opportunity to teach and to mentor. I have worked in several college and vocational school departments including teaching, financial aid counseling, registrar, student affairs, career placement, curriculum development, instructor assessments and evaluations, academic advising, and the college selection process. I have also owned and managed a business, served as a management consultant, and a sales and marketing manager. My diverse background and love of helping others learn and to be successful are the passions which motivate me.
Teaching Style
The very first task is to assess the student's age and learning style. Once this is determined I select the teaching style to best accomodate the student's needs. Although I have used Expert and Formal formats, I prefer to incorporated Personal and Facilitator styles. Personal establishes a prototype for how to think and behave. It oversees, guides, and directs by showing how to do things. Facilitator guides and directs students by asking questions, exploring options, suggesting alternatives. The goal is to develop the capacity for critical thinking, initiative, and responsibility with lots of encouragement and support.
