Experience Summary
I have been involved in teaching of some sort since young adulthood. My formal experience was the 17 years I spent teaching Philosophy at Gonzaga University and North Idaho College. Prior to that, I spent a number of years teaching guitar. I am a published author and Internet radio podcaster, teaching on various topics in philosophy and spirituality. As a traveling lecturer, I have conducted instructional seminars and workshops on spiritual themes all over the country.
Teaching Style
I am devoted to the Socratic method. Teaching with leading questions allows my students to formulate within their own minds the connections necessary to grasp the concepts we are addressing. There is no greater joy than seeing the light in a student's eyes when he or she makes that crucial crossover from external facts to internal understanding.
Also, I am firmly convinced that education is a social process in which both teacher and student participate, and from which both learn. Working with a motivated student is invigorating to me.
