Experience Summary
I have ten years experience teaching at the college undergraduate level at Canisius College, and five years at Hilbert College. I have been teaching Music History and Music Appreciation classes and always put the music into the social context in which it was produced. I have also taught World Music and Afro-Centric classes and again, place the content in its social context.
Prior to this I had a number of years teaching Social Studies and English classes as a guest artist/musician in numerous area high schools. These have included both full classes and individual tutoring sessions.
I feel that all this experience puts me in an excellent position for tutoring in History, Social Studies, Humanities, English and Music.
Teaching Style
My background in music performances in a school setting has taught me to be able to connect with a student in a very direct and honest manner. Each student is different with different strengths and weaknesses and my first job is to understand the needs of this individual student. I then begin to help the student address their needs and start learning. My experience in one-on-one music lessons also helps me to connect in a similar academic tutoring session.
