Experience Summary
I have worked in education in some form since 1996 when I started as a campus supervisor at Twin Peaks Middle School. During the six years I worked at TPMS, I tutored students, co-facilitated support groups, and taught summer school classes. At Chapman University, I completed a BA in Social Science in 2002 and a single-subject credential in Social Science a year later. From 2003 to 2004 I worked as a substitute for the Poway Unified School District. I started a director position for the Sylvan Learning Centers in 2004 and learned how to modify existing programs and curricula to best suit the needs of my students. I continue to tutor privately and have worked with students in Algebra, History, test preparation, and essay writing.
Teaching Style
I am a dynamic, energetic instructor with high standards. My enthusiasm for teaching is obvious in the time and energy I spend to help my students succeed. I want my students to be able to use higher levels of critical thinking skills and become effective problem solvers, not just robots who can memorize facts. Having worked with students of all ages and levels, I find that there are rarely children I can't reach, regardless of disabilities, abilities, or motivation. As a tutor, I have the joy of watching my students make progress in their class material as well as seeing their confidence rise. My goal is to make a strong positive impact on the lives of those I teach, and I work hard to achieve that goal.
