Experience Summary
As a communication major, to go along with my secondary major in history, my strengths lie in the ability to effectively engage with the student to give them a better understanding of history by speaking to them in an easy to understand manner. Technically, my degree is in communication, but only because I did not complete another round of general education requirements for a full bachelors degree in History. I completed all coursework, including courses on US, European, and non-western History. I have a diverse writing portfolio, which includes knowing MLA, APA, and Chicago manual writing styles for research papers. I have served as a copy editor for high school students, as well as, taught them research techniques.
Teaching Style
I believe that an often overlooked quality in teaching is the ability to communicate. As a communication major, with training in associating with all types of people, I am not an academic who would confuse the student. I am a problem solver and can easily adapt to any type of learner. For me, history is undervalued by today's students and I would do my part to ensure that past events and their meanings are explained to your child in a clear, accurate manner. Children need somebody willing to listen to them and someone willing to be patient with their abilities. I feel I would excel at both and want to help make a difference in their lives and help them gain perspective.
