Experience Summary
I have a B.A. in Graphic Communication, and a background in education and art and design. I have a lifelong love of learning, reading, and researching. My extensive teaching experience includes over twenty years as a substitute teacher, primarily in the elementary grades. I specialized in Language Arts, Math, Study Skills, and the arts. I worked with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities, in regular classrooms and resource programs. This experience has enabled me to understand how to assist and motivate students who struggle academically. I am currently tutoring elementary students both one on one and in a group environment.
Teaching Style
I enjoy and respect each child's unique personality and learning style. I believe the best way to help a child learn and understand is to discover what excites and interests him or her. This individualized approach motivates a student to want to learn, and the improvement in skills will then follow. I believe it is important to recognize small successes and reward progress, and teach in a patient, understanding manner. I also think learning should be fun and hands on, so I incorporate art to enhance the lessons. I strive to make the experience enjoyable and productive.
