Experience Summary
• As a NESCAC undergraduate, I explored many areas of study. In addition to earning a BA in English and American Literature while completing a minor in African Studies, I also became fluent in French through study, travel, and teaching. My first teaching experiences were in high school, when I choreographed musicals and tutored a young Chinese boy in English. In college, I co-instructed a drum circle. Finally, this past summer I worked as a Residential Advisor at the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy. In this position I was an academic advisor, a social mediator, and a confidante. In addition to formal tutoring, my strong writing skills have attracted peers in need of a second opinion on their work since high school.
Teaching Style
As someone who was enthralled with literature and learning at a young age, I truly enjoy guiding young people through their learning processes. I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn whatever interests them; I also believe that there are as many ways to learn as there are people in the world. As a tutor, I aspire to understand each child and his or her learning needs. Above all, I am very firm about reducing the stress levels that are often a by-product of classroom learning today. Children learn best when they are enjoying something, not when they feel put-upon to find the right answer. As a tutor, I am patient, supportive, and innovative.
