Experience Summary
I completed all of my field work in school 2006-2008 and completed my student teaching in 2009. During this time, I planned and taught lessons in all subjects to grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Along with teaching lessons, I also tracked students progress, and worked with students one on one to help struggling students succeed. I have worked as a tutor/ instructor at Sylvan Learning Center for the past year now. Here, I instruct students from grades Kindergarten to middle school in both Reading and Math. I teach both "Beginning Reading" and "Academic "Reading" and teach math from the 1st grade level up to pre-algebra and geometry.
Teaching Style
I love kids, and I love helping them learn and succeed. I have always believed that children learn best when learning is fun and interesting. I try to incorporate new and interesting methods of teaching into my lessons, including manipulatives and "hands-on" learning, and using "real world" examples that kids can relate to. I have learned from my experience that once you form a relationship with a student and learn their personality and interests, you can learn the best methods helping that student reach his/her full potential. I also believe that confidence is key when teaching. When students do well, they should be told. I believe that sometimes praise and confidence are all a child need to succeed.
