Experience Summary
My teaching experience ranges from serving as a special education itinerant teacher (SEIT) for young children with special needs to teaching high school English. I am certified in PreK-6 elementary education, English, and special education.
While I spent the majority of my teaching career bolstering language skills, specifically reading comprehension and writing, I also taught algebra and biology to high school students as a resource room teacher. Equipped with improved study skills, students have strategies that make them more successful in understanding more sophisticated content.
Teaching Style
All children and adolescents can successfully acquire and process new information. Many students encounter difficulty learning in a traditional school setting because the large class sizes do not afford the teacher the time to learn about each individual and attend to his or her specific needs. As a tutor, I find my students' strongest learning modalities. In doing so, my students learn to trust and respect me as a person and see me as a support.
I believe in using the constructivist approach to teaching, which allows students to learn through discovery. All students want to learn and be successful. As a teacher it is up to me to find the best method toward attaining that goal.
