Experience Summary
As a student at Georgetown College, majoring in El. Ed., I student taught in the 1st grade. My supervising teacher said I excelled in reading, and should pursue that area. I have taught 1st-4th grades, and tutored in elementary. I also minored in piano. I have given private piano lessons and done one-on-one tutoring with children and adults. I have a B.A. degree,a minor in Sociology and piano. I have many years of volunteering with children and adults. I enjoy working with children and beginners in both areas. I really like one on one teaching and enjoy seeing the progress the student makes. I also have experience in administrative work, and am good at editing and grammar. I have taught off and on between 1970-2008, for ten years.
Teaching Style
I love teaching children and helping them to achieve their academic goals. I am very organized and detail oriented and use those skills to organize and priortize the student's needs and specific way to achieve them. I help them set their own goals. I use a variety of curriculum and begin at the level they are at presently. I use a variety of visual aids and materials. I find what works best for the individual student, which involves getting to know the student and making a personal connection with him/her. I am kind,compassionate, easy going and determined as I work with each child. Most of all, I really care about their educational and personal well-being, and I work very hard to help them.I consider it a team effort.
