Experience Summary
As a high school honors student, I majored in English and achieved the highest score possible (five -- 5) on the English Exam. In College, I pursued my interest in English language by majoring in Literature, with an emphasis upon etymology, linguistics, speech and rhetoric. My senior thesis on the poetic technique of Alexander Pope earned both an "Honors A" and that year's sole English Faculty Award. I later chose to attend a law school that was renowned for its general emphasis upon writing and, in particular, "plain English" legal communication.
Teaching Style
I love to see students grasp a new concept and revisit their work with greater pride and confidence as a result. Realizing we all learn in differing rates and manners, I find great satisfaction in teaching in several ways at the same time (e.g., varying visual and auditory cues, telling stories and providing mnemonic devices). Having worked with issues such as ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia, I recognize and address learning challenges with patience, courtesy, respect -- and optimism. I believe that every successful experience with schoolwork, no matter how small, builds toward a cumulative good outcome for students at every level, and that the right tools exist for each of us to succeed in ways best suited to our unique character.
