Experience Summary
During my Sophomore Year at College of Charleston I worked in the Math Lab tutoring all levels of classical mathematics up to Calculus III. I happened to be the only tutor who checked a box saying I could help high school students, and therefore worked with every family who called the college looking for a math tutor. After that year had a very large math tutoring business on the side, and over the last 10 years I have privately tutored mathematics and offered SAT and ACT Prep services at many of the finest academic institutions in Charleston, SC.
Teaching Style
I can teach with or without a textbook. My great advantage in privately tutoring for 10 years is in my being forced to work with all levels of mathematics; that is, while most teachers teach one or two math subjects only, I have had to brush up on everything from elementary algebra to calculus year, after year, after year. I know how to "read" students to figure out what they know, what they don't, and the course of action we need to take to get them up to speed FAST. My philosophy is in blending the Socratic Method and demonstration to give students the actual language of mathematics. My business has been 100% referral based for the last 10 years, and it stems from getting amazing results quickly.
