Experience Summary
I have taught grades first through sixth in Phoenix, Oregon and in Redmond, Oregon. I taught in two magnet programs, one was with an emphasis on early childhood best practices with a focus on literature, writing, and creative projects. The other was with intermediate grades using Mini Society, a program incorporating economics. I also was an instructor for the Home School Program through the High Desert Education Service District. I was the facilitator for Talented and Gifted Programs in Redmond School District for many years. I also have a Handicapped Learner Endorsement and have worked with children with learning disabilities. I received the Excellence in Teaching Award and was nominated into Who's Who of America's Teachers.
Teaching Style
I like to build relationships with children. I use a great deal of humor and positive feedback. I work to build a child's self esteem and feel that is essential. I assess each student's academic level and plan accordingly. I assess each student's learning style and plan learning activities around that. I love to use creative experiences with children incorporating imagination and art! I like to make learning fun! I like to target specific skill areas that the child needs help with and celebrate with them when they overcome a learning obstacle! I like to encourage them to THINK!
