Experience Summary
I graduated from Saint Mary's College with a BA in Sociology in December of 2008. Throughout that time, I was employed as a childcare provider for two wonderful families who each had two young children. I organized educational and recreational activities and tutored them with their reading and writing skills. I supported, encouraged and nurtured them while also stressing the importance of learning and achieving at school. While my own achievements making the Saint Mary's Sociology Honor Roll helped me to understand how hard work, discipline and added support made me into a much more confident young woman. I then, in turn tried to project this self confidence and work ethic onto the children.
Teaching Style
Children need to feel empowered, confident, supported and most of all listened to and respected. They will work hard to achieve their goals if they feel that they have someone they trust to help them and stand by them when they get frustrated. It is my job as a tutor to allow the child to discover on their own, make mistakes as well as learn how to fix them. Children need to feel safe and be in an learning environment that supports individual growth and maturity. It is my responsibility as a caregiver and educator to be patient, compassionate, encouraging and loving throughout this process.
