Experience Summary
Since earning my degree in Math in 1984, I have worked in the Software development field. The last 15 years I have been an independent consultant. I have 2 college age children and 2 elementary age twins. My college age children have both taken math through calculus so I have had many opportunities to tutor them over the years in advanced math. I also did formal math tutoring all through college. I am also a very good writer and would feel comfortable tutoring writing and reading. I have taught Sunday school for 4 years so I do have experience with creating curriculum and teaching in a class setting.
Teaching Style
I have always loved to teach and have been told by my children that I should have been a teacher. When it comes to math I have found that most people who have trouble with math have simply missed some fundamental along the way. It is extremely rewarding to figure out what that is and fill in that hole. I teach by breaking problems down and asking easier questions that lead to the answer. I am good at finding many ways to approach the same problem while I search for the way that clicks with the student. One of my children has ADD so I have learned to recognize when that focus switch turns off and have found ways to bring the focus back. I have a great sense of humor and have found that most children and adults are quite comfortable with me.
