Experience Summary
I have been a teacher at Mount Vernon High School for the past three years. I came here straight out of college, and have had the opportunity to bring a lot of new ideas and technology into the math classroom. I have worked closely with several resource students and I.E.P.'s, which helps the students work towards getting a valuable education. I was also the editor of the book "SAT Math for Dummies," 2010 edition. Over the last three years I have taught numerous students good study habits and basic math skills that have helped them move forward in their educational and athletic lives, as I also coach football and track & field.
Teaching Style
"Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime." This quote is the backbone of my teaching. It is what I live for each day. I think that I do a good job presenting information and ideas in multiple ways to reach learners on a variety of levels. I differentiate my instruction by coming up with activities to get students out of the typical paper-pencil work, and relate the work to real-life activities. When I do that, the students have more fun and the material is meaningful to them. Therefore, they retain the information better. I believe in giving kids structure so that they will know what I expect from them, and in turn, they will know what they can expect from me.
