Experience Summary
In the year 2001 I began a teacher preparation program at the University of Northern Colorado. I managed to complete the teacher education program in 2007 with a 3.85 GPA. In fulfillment of my teaching dream we moved to Pagosa Springs, CO. in the winter of 2006-2007. I obtained my New Mexico Teaching license in the year of 2008 and obtained an endorsement in mathematics that enabled me to teach middle school math as a "Highly Qualified Teacher of Mathematics". My first year of teaching was as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in a Middle School. Now I am studying advanced mathematics for teaching secondary mathematics.
Teaching Style
My greatest learning experiences were the result of inquiries by my students. A student must master mathematical operations with: whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, and percents before more abstract mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry; trigonometry, statistics, calculus, etc. can be understood. A good teacher can assess and strengthen the student's ability to comprehend abstract principles of higher order math problems. I integrate mathematical concepts into meaningful contexts that engage the student’s interests whatever they may be i.e. sports, nature, science, finances, entertainment, transportation, etc. It is essential to know your student as an individual.
