Experience Summary
I graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education. I am a former Vounteer Teacher Assistant, Substitute Teacher, and High School Mathemematics Teacher/Tutor (9th-12th: 2 yrs). As a High School Teacher I taught Algebra I & II, Pre AP Geometry, PreCalculus, and TAKS Math. My professional development includes rigorously analyzing students' performance on common assessments, district benchmark exams, End of Course exams, and TAKS tests to target students' needs in lesson planning. Such analysis proved to be most valuable and reflected on students' TAKS results. I am also Pre AP Mathematics Certified and Gifted and Talented Certified.
Teaching Style
I have always loved math and to help others learn. I am patient and compassionalte, and recognize that every person is individual in learning style. I whole-heartedly urge my students to ask if they do not comprehend any of what we are discussing, no matter how many times they may have to ask. The key is to understand a concept in order to be able to retain what is learned and build on it. By asking questions a student helps me understand their needs in the learning process and gives me the opportunity to change my approach in successfully meeting their academic needs. Most people dislike math, but I believe that everyone has the potential to learn it. My goal is to maximize my students' potential and help them meet their goals.
