Experience Summary
I currently hold a BA in Biology from a liberal arts school, which allows me to apply a varied scope of learning techniques to tutoring; in addition it has helped me gain a strong proficiency in the sciences and the humanities. I have much experience in scientific writing, especially in primary literature, laboratory reports, and research papers; additionally, I perform daily calculations for my laboratory experiments. I have been a tutor for two years, having acted as a Microbiology TA and an Evolution TA. My academic background is backed by extensive experience in the lab, working on projects ranging from bacteria to stem cells to cancer genetics, allowing me to apply real life examples to principles being taught.
Teaching Style
Having grown up the daughter of a teacher, I have seen firsthand the ability of a teacher to shape a student's motivation and desire to learn. I believe there is more than one way to teach, and each student learns in both different ways and at different rates. To me, one of the most important aspects of teaching is positive reinforcement, while also pushing the student to figure out the problem on his or her own. My goal is not to lecture the student, but rather guide the student to help him or her absorb the material in different ways to ensure that they learn it in its entirety.
