Experience Summary
I recently graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in English and Spanish. I have more than 1.5 years experience as a tutor at Northwestern where I assisted more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students clearly communicate written ideas in creative and analytical essays, research proposals, and personal statements. I also have more than 1.5 years experience as a math and reading tutor for a second grade student at the YMCA. I have expertise in English literature and grammar, creative and analytical writing, and basic and intermediate Spanish language and literature. I also have work experience in various fields, including business communications and publishing, which gives me a results-oriented approach to tutoring.
Teaching Style
I encourage a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where the student and I can work together to create goals and then decide on the best ways to achieve these goals, including discussing which learning style works best for the student. I encourage students to learn by doing and by thinking. So, rather than give the student a list of rules to memorize, I prefer to give an example of a rule and then have the student interpret the example and implement it in a new situation, afterward reflecting on what they did to see how it helped (or did not help) them learn. Most of all, I love watching the students grow from what they have learned and challenging them to meet (and make) their goals.
