Experience Summary
I have studied guitar since1972. I have taught thousands of lessons from informal setting with children to college level courses to older adults individually and in groups. I have played various stringed instruments in professional and other performing bands for most of the past 20 years. I currently teach elementary music and high school choir courses at a local public school. I use guitars and other stringed instruments in the classroom as well as offering after-school lessons and classes.
During all these years, I have spent the most time teaching beginners and intermediate players.
I send much of my at-home time playing and recording guitar and I would continue to be involved with music if I never earned another dime at it.
Teaching Style
I have learned that if people do not enjoy the experience of learning the guitar, they will have no motivation to continue and be successful. In fact, this has been my own personal experience down through the years. I focus on discovering students’ preferences and habits in order to make the lessons and learning fun in a way that will keep them picking up the instrument at home. That seems to be the main issue – getting students to spend time with the instrument IN THEIR HANDS.
