Experience Summary
As a retired broadcast engineer who loves math, I chose to begin a new career in education, tutoring math. As a student I competed in math contests. I placed in the top ten in the East Tennessee region two years in a row. I have made extensive use of my math background in my career as an engineer and now I use my engineering career as background for teaching math. I have tutored students in middle school, high school and college levels. I have even tutored adults who were preparing for the GACE exam required for teacher certification in Georgia.
Teaching Style
I think it is best to help a student understand concepts and establish steps to attack a problem. I do not simply give them the answers. I encourage them to think for themselves and give them hints where needed. I think it is important for them to have some easy work to succeed with and build confidence. Then we can move on to the harder stuff with confidence that they can figure it out. I truely care about my students and want them all to succeed.
